Blue Moon Authors Reveal Their Favourite Summer Novels
Now that the weather is warming up nicely, it is time to prepare your summer reading list! There are no criteria for a favourite warm-weather book; it can be set somewhere tropical, feature “steamy” romance, or simply be something you enjoy reading at the beach. Two Blue Moon Publishers authors reveal their favourite summertime reads.
Amanda S. Jones – Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories
If I’m somewhere warm or on holidays, I take in the scenery around me and live in that moment rather than a book! For that reason, I prefer short story collections as I can read them in one sitting, while in an airport waiting for my flight, or between dips in the water. Last summer, I read Alice Munro’s Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories and loved the diversity of characters, especially in “The Bear Came Over the Mountain,” which was adapted for the film Away From Her.
Jaime Lee Mann – Just As Long As We’re Together
I will never forget the summer when my young teenaged self read Judy Blume’s Just As Long As We’re Together. I could not get enough of that book. I felt like a voyeur in the lives of these other girls. It was the same when I read Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone as a twenty-something. And in my early thirties, it was Marian Keyes’ This Charming Man. I grew up in a seaside home in Prince Edward Island, and reading at the beach was something I got to do every single day. My favourite summer reads bring me back to those days when I chose big juicy reads that would last me a few solid weeks. My summer reads are never overly complicated, yet I prefer big thick novels featuring strong female leads, that leave me wanting more. And more. And more!
