“Literacy unlocks the door to learning throughout life, is essential to development and health, and opens the way for democratic participation and active citizenship.” -Kofi Annan, former United Nations Secretary-General
At Blue Moon Publishing, we like to give back to the literary community.
Each time you read one of our books, or join one of our series, know that we’ll be contributing a portion of the profits to a campaign for Reading in Asia through Room to Read. Depending on how many books we sell, we’ll contribute to the following programs – our ultimate goal as we grow our own book list, is to build a stand-alone library for children. It’s our way of saying thanks.
Fill the bookshelves in a Classroom Library
A classroom library in Asia opens a world of possibilities and learning for children. There are thousands in Asia and the School Library program includes more than 1,000 local language and English language books along with furniture, games and library management training.
Publish an Original Language Book
The Book Publication program funds the printing of approximately 9,000 original local language children’s books, illustrated and written by local authors and artists and printed by a local publisher. The program is available in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka or Vietnam.
Build a Stand-alone Library
In a larger school community, a stand-alone library can serve more than 1,000 students. In the Constructed Library program, the library bookshelves are filled with books, including an original language book. This program is available for either Nepal, Cambodia, Sri Lanka or Laos.
